How Can Orthotics Help with Knee Pain?

Imbalances in  your feet can lead to pain in the knees. The use of orthotics can help give your body stabilization and a balanced foundation that can help decrease pain in the body. Orthotics change the distribution of force through the foot and ankle. This can change the distribution of force through the knee. Orthotics will act as a cushion that will help absorb the shock through the foot and ankle which will help reduce the force in the knees. Not only will they reduce the shock that is absorbed by the foot, but they will help change the alignment of the foot and ankle which can result in the change of alignment of the knee. Orthotics can help with conditions such as patellofemoral pain, IT band syndrome, osteoarthritis, to name a few.

Avoiding Injuries While You Run

Running is very healthy..

Running is a great way to stay in shape. But it can take a toll on your muscles and joints. To avoid running injuries, it's important to take precautions before you set out. It is important to listen to your body. Don't ignore pain. If you notice consistent pain in a muscle or joint that doesn't get better with rest, see your health local chiropractor.

There are many injuries that can occur from running and not warming up the proper way.

Some injuries include: Piriformis Syndrome, Groin Pull, Hamstring Strain, Calf Muscle Pull, Achilles Tendonitis, Plantar Fasciitis, Shin Splints, Runner's Knee, IT Band Syndrome, and Spinal Compression. All of these injuries can be prevented with proper running shoes. Wear proper-fitting socks and shoes with good arch support. If the soles of your running shoes have worn thin or are angled, you should get a new pair.  It is also important to warm up/cool down of the muscles to help prevent injury. If you experience any of these symptoms, contact your local chiropractor and see what we can do for you!

Facet Syndrome Causing your Back Pain?

What is Facet Syndrome?

Facet syndrome  is type of back pain that can often include the buttock or leg, that is generated by a unique set of joints between each vertebrae, called the facet joints. The facet joints work with the corresponding disc to link the vertebrae above and below. This helps to form a working unit that allows for stability and weight-bearing capacity  and movement of the spine.

Why are they painful?

What causes the facet joints to become painful? Usually the pain comes from an injury to the joint or  changes associated with aging (degeneration). When either occur, the joint can become inflamed which then causes pain. Regular exercise, proper body mechanics and posture will help keep the facet joint healthy and moving properly, which can help decrease the chance of injury.

How to treat Facet Syndrome?

If in fact it is facet syndrome there are many techniques that the chiropractor can perform to help decrease the pain. Your chiropractor may use manipulation, soft tissue techniques and physical therapy to help decrease the pain experienced. If you are experiencing pain in the low back visit your chiropractor for the proper diagnosis.
