Stay Healthy this Halloween

Halloween Brings out the Kid in All of Us

Who doesn't have fun to get dressed up in a costume and parade around the neighborhood or going to a party. Treats are a part of the fun. However, treats don't have to be sticky, gooey candy to be delicious!

Here are a List of Some Healthy Alternative Snacks that can be Handed out at Halloween this Year:

1. Cheese and cracker packages
2. Sugar-free gum
3. Small packages of nuts or raisins
4. Package of instant cocoa mix
5. apples
6. chocolate covered strawberry's

For those who enjoy the traditional idea of Halloween here are some simple ways to help your kids stay healthy: Make sure your child eats a healthy filling meal before going trick-or-treating. This will help prevent over eating of candy. Always check the candy before your child eats it. If any is opened, disguard of the candy. Lastly, remember, it is better to eat the candy over several days. Reward your child with the candy for dessert if they eat their whole meal instead of letting them eat a handful of candy before dinner.

Chiropractic Care and Asthma

Asthma is a chronic lung disease which is responsible for the inflammation and narrowing of the airways. This can make it very hard to breath. The most common symptoms a child with asthma will display are wheezing, tightness in the chest, coughing and shortness of breath.

Chiropractic Care is the Natural, Drug-Free Approach

In some cases, a chiropractor may be able to provide a natural and drug free approach that works to treat asthma in children and adults. A chiropractor can help determine if subluxation, which is a misalignment of the bones in the spine which irritates nerves, is causing the asthma. If this is the case, a simple pain free adjustment of the spine may help decrease the effects of asthma. The lungs and diaphragm are responsible for breathing and their ability to function correctly is controlled by the nervous system. If there is irritation or interference of the nervous system, the lungs simply can’t function optimally.

Contact your local chiropractor and ask if they can help you in the fight against asthma!

How to Prevent Back Pain While Raking This Fall

Raking the Leaves is a Common Way to Have Back Pain

The fall is here! That means leaves are changing color but it also means they will be falling soon. Raking the leaves is a common cause of neck pain, mid back pain and low back pain! Raking involves a lot of bending and twisting that can cause moderate back pain. It is important to remember to be careful this fall when you go outside in the cold to start picking up those leaves! Some easy tips to remember are: bend at the knees, not the waist, as you pick up piles of leaves.

Making Small Piles While Raking Can Help Reduce Back Pain

Make small piles of leaves that are easier to pick up to help decrease the possibility of back strain. Even though it is cold and you may not be sweating, remember to drink lots of water to keep your muscles hydrated.

Make Sure to Keep Warm While You Are Out in Order to Reduce Chances of Pain

Make sure to wear a hat, warm shoes and protective glasses. If you are sore after all of that bending and twisting, ice for 20 minutes at a time. If you are still in pain within the next few days, visit your local chiropractic!

15 States Dead From Meningitis Steriod Shots

Two Hundred and Five People in 14 States are Infected with Meningitis Traced to Contaminated Steroid Shots and 15 Dead

Dan Hart from the Bloomberg News reports "Two hundred and five people in 14 states are infected with meningitis traced to contaminated steroid shots, which have left 15 people dead, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Sunday. The outbreak has spread to a new state, New Hampshire, the CDC said. The others are Florida, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, North Carolina, Ohio, Tennessee, Texas and Virginia. Two facilities in Texas have been identified as receiving the contaminated steroid, and one case of meningitis has been reported so far. A Central Texas woman who was treated at Dallas Back Pain Management is hospitalized, according to public health authorities. About 14,000 people are believed to be at risk for infections traced to vials from a Framingham, Mass.-based pharmacy that mixed the steroid and sold it to 75 hospitals and clinics in 23 states, the CDC said. The company in question, New England Compounding Pharmacy, was sued last week by a woman who received a steroid shot and got fungal meningitis.

Injections of the tainted steroid, an epidural shot used to treat neck and back pain, were given starting May 21, the CDC said."

Chiropractic Care is a Non-Evasive Solution which Can Help Reduce Back Pain as Well as Help Prevent it In the Future

The outbreak of fungal meningitis has focused attention on the risk of infection from spinal injections to help relieve back pain. But the same injections have also long been linked to other rare but devastating complications, including nerve damage, paralysis and strokes. The question is, why not try a safe alternative route to helping low back pain like Chiropractic? Chiropractic care can help reduce back pain as well as help prevent it in the future. Contact your local chiropractor and see what they can do for your back pain!

Yoga to Help Relieve Back Pain

Sometimes Back Pain is Caused by a Decrease in Flexibility in the Low Back Muscles

Many people suffer from back pain. Not always is it due to an injury or trauma. Sometimes back pain is caused by a decrease in flexibility in the low back muscles.  If one has tight and hypertonic lumbar muscles you will often feel bad and discomfort in the low back.

Choosing the Right Yoga for Back Pain will Strengthen the Spine and Increase Flexibility

This is necessary for support and greater range of motion in the lumbar spine. Yoga is important for reducing back pain and improving movement and function. Back exercises, such as Yoga, are necessary for a healthy spine and can many times remove back pain. However, it is important to remember proper posture must also be practiced to greatly reduce back pain on daily basis. Please remember, if you exercises with improper form, you can further injury your back!
