getimage

Champion System Pro Cycling Team's Chun Kai Feng took home top honors in the king of the mountains classification Sunday at the Tour de Taiwan after securing and protecting the jersey since Friday's Stage 5.
Champion System Assistant Director Chris Wherry said he was proud of the team's overall effort to preserve the jersey in a race that saw Zach Bell win Stage 4 and teammate Adiq Othman earn four top five finishes, including fifth on the final stage.
"I am very pleased for the team," Wherry said. "Especially for Zach's stage win and Kai's KOM jersey."
With no categorized climbs on the final stage, a 58-kilometer circuit race through Taipei City, as Feng needed only to finish the race to secure the jersey. When a breakaway failed to materialize, the intermediate sprints turned into field sprints. Othman took third in the first and was runner-up on the second.
Rain started to fall as the peloton hit the final lap, and what looked to be a perfect lead out by Champion System for Fabian Schnaidt was ruined in a crash with two corners to go.
"I'm very bummed at the lost opportunity," Schnaidt said. "I thought I was going to have a great finish."
Hayato Yoshida (Shimano Racing Team) took the win ahead of Benjamin Giraud (Team La Pomme Marsielle). Othman's fifth place added to his fourth on Stage 3, fifth on Stage 5 and third on Stage 6. He finished the race as Champion System's best-placed rider overall in 11th, 47 seconds behind winner Bernard Sulzberger (DRAPAC Cycling).

Sugar Addiction

Many of us focus on a weight loss by concentrating on lowering fat intake or counting calories; however, many of us fail to consider the role that refined sugar plays in our diets and in contributing to our growing waistlines. Large amounts of refined sugar are often hidden in many of the foods and drinks we consume every day without us even knowing it. Sugar can harm the body in the following ways:

Suppressing the immune system.
Contributing to hyperactivity, anxiety and depression.
Increasing the risk of coronary heart disease.
Interfering with the absorption of calcium and magnesium.
Contributing to diabetes

A few tips to help reduce the sugar in your diet include:

Learn to enjoy foods that are naturally sweet, without added sugar (fruits).
If you are using a recipe that calls for larger amounts of sugar, cut back the amount suggested.
Use spices and herbs such as cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and ginger to enhance the flavor of foods naturally.
Use dried or fresh fruit or frozen fruit juice concentrates to sweeten cereals and baked goods instead of sugar.

All of these suggestions will not only help you with your weight loss goals, but will also help you be more healthy and help prevent Type II diabetes.

Osteoarthritis and Chiropractic Care

Osteoarthritis is abnormal wear and tear on a malfunctioning joint.

This can be very painful and anywhere in your body that a joint is located. Chiropractic care can help treat a contributing cause of osteoarthritis.  Chiropractic care involves chiropractic adjustments, along with therapies such as ultrasound, electric muscle stimulation, and laser therapy, stretching and exercises for patients. The adjustment will help restore motion and function in a joint that is not moving properly. This will help reduce further wear and tear on a joint and slow down the degenerative process itself.

Chiropractic care relieves pain and inflammation that is located in the joints. This is return, will help decrease the pain caused for the osteoarthritis.  Chiropractic manipulative therapy also increases the mobility of the joint which can help improve joint stiffness and lack of motion.

Therapies that chiropractors utilize help in junction with the adjustment to reduce pain and inflammation.  Ultrasound therapy sends sound waves deep into the tissues and joints and helps to reduce inflammation. Electric muscle stimulation sends electrical impulses into the muscles to reduce pain and muscle tightness or spasms. Cold laser therapy goes to the cellular level and promotes healing at that level.

Combined, all of these therapies will help the patient not only feel better, but also help reduce the chance of more osteoarthritis forming in the future.

Groin Sprain or Strain

What is a groin strain? How is it developed?
A groin strain usually results from putting too much stress on muscles in your groin and thigh. If these muscles are tensed too forcefully or too suddenly, they can get over-stretched or torn.

Groin pulls are common in people who play sports that require a lot of running and jumping. A groin sprain/strain can commonly feel like:

  • Pain and tenderness in the groin and the inside of the thigh
  • Pain when you bring your legs together
  • Pain when you raise your knee
  • A popping or snapping feeling during the injury, followed by severe pain

Treatment of a groin sprain/strain  at your chiropractor's office usually consists of icing for 20 minutes at a time every hour, on the inside of your thigh to reduce pain and swelling. Practice stretching and strengthening exercises if your chiropractor recommends them, as well as electric stimulation and soft tissue work to the region to help promote healing.
