Shoulder pain?

Shoulder pain is a common complaint, and there are many common causesof this problem.

It is important to make an accurate diagnosis of the
cause of your symptoms so that appropriate treatment can be directed
at the cause. Chiropractic care is often useful when dealing with
shoulder pain. You should contact your chiropractor if you have the
following issues:

1. Inability to carry objects or use the arm

2. Injury that causes deformity of the joint

3. Shoulder pain that occurs at night

4.  pain that persists beyond a few days

5. Inability to raise the arm

6. Swelling or significant bruising around the joint or arm

7. Signs of an infection, including fever, redness, warmth

When your chiropractor is looking at the shoulder, they are looking at
three different areas: the clavicle, the humerus, and the scapula. If
any of these joints move out of their normal position with extended
use in the wrong way, pain may occur. Stress and poor posture in the
upper back can lead the shoulder blade to become stuck and fixated in
the wrong position. The chiropractor can adjust this area and work
with the muscles to get things moving again.

Turf Toe

“Turf toe” is used to describe a sprain of the ligaments around the big toe joint. It is commonly associated with football players who play on artificial turf; however,  it affects athletes in other sports including dance, soccer, basketball, gymnastics.  It’s a condition that’s caused by jamming the big toe or repeatedly pushing off the big toe forcefully as in running and jumping.

The most common symptoms of turf toe include pain, swelling, and limited joint movement at the big toe. The symptoms develop slowly and gradually get worse with time if not treated properly.

What is the treatment for turf toe? At first it is important to rest, ice, compression, and elevate that foot. A chiropractor  can also work with you on correcting any problems in your gait that can lead to injury and on developing training techniques to help reduce the chance of injury. Along with doing this a chiropractor can perform a soft tissue technique called Graston and cold laser on the toe to help heal the sprained ligaments.

Healthy Eating And Cooking

Healthy Eating can provide increased energy and longevity in life. Goji berries are an amazing antioxidant. You can substitute them in anything you would use raisins in while cooking or baking this holiday season. They have a great deal more vitamins , anti oxidants and less calories than raisins or cranberries. Natural goji is one of the strongest Anti-oxidants in the world.  Anitoxidants are substances that may protect cells from the damage caused by unstable molecules known as free radicals. Adding antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables to your daily diet will strengthen your ability to fight infection and disease. Stay healthy, and enjoy the great taste of natural goji berries!

Corrective Care Chiropractic or Surgery?

Chiropractic care can help improve one's scoliosis. Your chiropractor looks at your overall health examining your spine as well as other factors of your lifestyle. Your chiropractor will discuss symptoms and previous injuries, your family's health history, and recreational and work-related activities. Palpation, orthopedic, and neurological tests will be performed as well as x-rays, if needed, to determine the extent and degree of the curve. Spinal manipulation, physiotherapy, electric stimulation, bracing and soft tissue work can be used to help relieve pain in the back or neck. Regular visits to your chiropractor, to observe the progression of scoliosis, are an integral part of living a full and healthy life. Snow Shoveling Techniques to Prevent Low Back Injuries

One of the more common causes of back injuries during the winter months is snow removal. Using the wrong body mechanics when shoveling snow can put undue stress on the lower back and lead to a painful muscle strain, or a disc herniation. When you step outside to start getting rid of that snow, remember it is important to have the right snow shovel. An ergonomic snow shovel can help take some of the effort out of your snow removal chores. A shovel with a curved handle or an adjustable handle length will minimize painful bending.

Even though you may not think of shoveling snow as an exercises, it sure will work those muscles! Make sure you stretch the neck, low back  and shoulders before you attempt to shovel! Some easy stretches include: hamstrings, double knee to chest exercises, and lateral neck stretches.

It is also important to pace yourself out there! Take breaks, don't try to remove of the snow all at once. Shoveling small piles instead of large piles is a good way to help prevent back pain.

Using proper lifting techniques are also important. Bend at the knees, not the low back when you go to lift the snow. Always face towards the snow, not standing sideways. Do not twist your upper body when you throw the snow. Always pivot your whole body to face the new direction. Another tip is to wear good boots that have good treads to help decrease the chance of you falling on some ice!
