The Most Aggressive Jersey Goes to RecoveryDoc Athlete Bobbie Traksel

Bobbie Traksel of Team Champion Systems Pro Cycling has taken hold of the most aggressive jersey title in Oman.

This is a great success for Team Champion Systems which aims to hold onto the jersey, “we are all focused on helping Bobbie keep the combative jersey,” Friedemann said. We are certainly happy after this great victory which occurred following the training camp, where Dr. Rick Rosa worked with the team on their sports recovery, strength and endurance. “This is a great start for the season for me,” Traksel said. “These races were great preparation for me and I’m feeling very good about my new position on the Champion System team.” Dr. Rick Rosa works with a number of athletes in his sports recovery program, RecoveryDoc, these athletes include Team Jamis Sutterfield, Tony Thompson boxer, Keystone Boxing, Team Lloyd Irvin, high school, college leagues and more.

To achieve success, Dr. Rosa utilizes his signature Six Pillars of Recovery program for athletes which encompass all aspects of healing. The Six Pillars include:
  • Awareness of State
  • Rest
  • Play
  • Nutrition
  • Physical
  • Psychological
This comprehensive approach enables a more complete healing process that will prevent further injuries as well as speed up recovery between workouts. Athletes respond better when a coach is able to map out a specific workout. Similarly, doctors are able to map out and monitor specific plans that the athlete can follow. In addition, the athlete will become more aware of his/her recovery state and when he/she has fully recovered. The athlete can put that much more into his/her workouts which will ultimately improve the performance. Would you like to see Dr. Rosa in action with the team? Here is a video you’ll love taken in China, where he worked as the Champion Systems Recovery Specialist and Sports Chiropractor. Degenerative Joint Disease

Degenerative joint disease is common in the lower back region and can be a source of low back pain in many people. The low back  supports nearly half of the body’s overall weight. A lifetime of pressure on the lower back can cause the cartilage that surrounds vertebral joints, or facet joints, to deteriorate, a condition that can lead to bone spurs, joint stiffness, inflammation, and pain.

The causes of Joint Degeneration include:

  • Obesity
  • Malnutrition
  • A weakened immune system
  • Congenital joint disorders
  • Prolonged misuse, overexertion
  • Poor posture
  • Disease

What Should I Do If I Think I Have Degenerative Joint Disease?

In general some techniques that will help with DJD include: electric stimulation, soft tissue work, adjustments, decompression, and stretching and strengthening exercises. If you are suffering from
pain, weakness, tingling, or stiffness in your lumbar spine, hips, buttocks, or legs consult your local chiropractor and see what chiropractic can do to help decrease your back pain.

Upper and Lower Crossed Syndrome

Upper and Lower Crossed Syndrome
Crossed syndromes usually occur do to alternating sides of inhibition and facilitation in the upper quarter and lower quarter. Layer syndrome, essentially a combination of UCS and LCS is characterized by alternating patterns of tightness and weakness, indicating long-standing muscle imbalance pathology.

Upper Crossed Syndrome
In UCS, tightness of the upper trapezius and levator scapula on the dorsal side crosses with tightness of the pectoralis major and minor. Weakness of the deep cervical flexors ventrally crosses with weakness of the middle and lower trapezius.  In LCS, tightness of the thoracolumbar extensors on the dorsal side crosses with tightness of the iliopsoas and rectus femoris. Weakness of the deep abdominal muscles ventrally crosses with weakness of the gluteus maximus and medius. This type of imbalance often leads to lower back pain.

Contact Rosa Rehab and see what we can do to help correct muscle weakness and imbalance and improve your quality of life!

Shoulder pain?

Shoulder pain is a common complaint, and there are many common causesof this problem.

It is important to make an accurate diagnosis of the
cause of your symptoms so that appropriate treatment can be directed
at the cause. Chiropractic care is often useful when dealing with
shoulder pain. You should contact your chiropractor if you have the
following issues:

1. Inability to carry objects or use the arm

2. Injury that causes deformity of the joint

3. Shoulder pain that occurs at night

4.  pain that persists beyond a few days

5. Inability to raise the arm

6. Swelling or significant bruising around the joint or arm

7. Signs of an infection, including fever, redness, warmth

When your chiropractor is looking at the shoulder, they are looking at
three different areas: the clavicle, the humerus, and the scapula. If
any of these joints move out of their normal position with extended
use in the wrong way, pain may occur. Stress and poor posture in the
upper back can lead the shoulder blade to become stuck and fixated in
the wrong position. The chiropractor can adjust this area and work
with the muscles to get things moving again.

Turf Toe

“Turf toe” is used to describe a sprain of the ligaments around the big toe joint. It is commonly associated with football players who play on artificial turf; however,  it affects athletes in other sports including dance, soccer, basketball, gymnastics.  It’s a condition that’s caused by jamming the big toe or repeatedly pushing off the big toe forcefully as in running and jumping.

The most common symptoms of turf toe include pain, swelling, and limited joint movement at the big toe. The symptoms develop slowly and gradually get worse with time if not treated properly.

What is the treatment for turf toe? At first it is important to rest, ice, compression, and elevate that foot. A chiropractor  can also work with you on correcting any problems in your gait that can lead to injury and on developing training techniques to help reduce the chance of injury. Along with doing this a chiropractor can perform a soft tissue technique called Graston and cold laser on the toe to help heal the sprained ligaments.

Healthy Eating And Cooking

Healthy Eating can provide increased energy and longevity in life. Goji berries are an amazing antioxidant. You can substitute them in anything you would use raisins in while cooking or baking this holiday season. They have a great deal more vitamins , anti oxidants and less calories than raisins or cranberries. Natural goji is one of the strongest Anti-oxidants in the world.  Anitoxidants are substances that may protect cells from the damage caused by unstable molecules known as free radicals. Adding antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables to your daily diet will strengthen your ability to fight infection and disease. Stay healthy, and enjoy the great taste of natural goji berries!

Spinal manipulation, physiotherapy, electric stimulation, bracing and soft tissue work can be used to help relieve pain in the back or neck. Regular visits to your chiropractor, to observe the progression of scoliosis, are an integral part of living a full and healthy life.
